Presidents Message – August 2023

August 1 , 2023

Thank you to everyone who made time to join us for our 2023.  We appreciate your dedication to our organization and your willingness to dedicate your time to the business of ALTA

We have heard loud and clear through our membership the need for in person learning and networking opportunities.  Opportunities that are cost effective and more accessible for our members.  We are EXCITED to announce:  In partnership with Stronger Together Conference ALTA will be offering an In-Person Trustee Development Day on November 9, 2023 at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, AB (West Edmonton).

Ian McCormack will be joining ALTA to run a morning session to provide guidance, advice, expertise and resources that empower our trustees to practice good governance with confidence.   As a strong library supporter and previous board member, Ian seeks to support trustees through a broad range of experience and insight.  Our afternoon sessions will create opportunities for trustees to discuss important topics to them while networking and learning from fellow trustees across the province.

Please visit the website for updated information as the program continues to develop.  Registration opens August 16, 2023.  Registration fills up quickly, so we encourage members to register as soon as possible.

ALTA is also pleased to announce the return of The Lorne MacRae Intellectual Freedom Fund.  This award is presented annually to recognize and exemplify the values and beliefs of Lorne MacRae and encourages, enlightens and empowers the importance of Intellectual Freedom.  This year’s award is valued at $928 and is distributed to the winning individual(s), library boards or Library. Continue to keep an eye out for our and coffee chats and utilize our webinars for comprehensive professional development for trustees.  Our ALTA board value opportunities to connect fellow trustees and learn and support one another.  As we continue to provide services, digital spaces, and collections of educational material for library trustees across the province, we commit to continuing to evolve and excel as we take meaningful steps to providing our members with valuable services.  Should you require direct support or consultation opportunities either in person, videoconference, email and telephone do not hesitate to reach out.

We hope everyone has an opportunity to slow down and enjoy a wonderful summer!
