President’s Report, Summer 2018

Warmest Greetings Trustees.

This is my first official communication bulletin to everyone and I am happy to report so many great things are happening with ALTA. My background is in education, and I am very excited about all of the amazing projects ALTA has planned for this coming year.

The Alberta Library Conference was a smash success for ALTA this year, with ALTA Directors presenting a combined total of 8 sessions! Never idle, the ALTA met in June to evaluate the year, contemplate projects, and add to the To-Do lists. We are taking a well-deserved summer break to gear up for a very busy fall.

As your President, I am committed to listening to the needs of trustees across Alberta. We are developing initiatives to unite trustees from all libraries:  of all shapes, sizes and locations. One of these is conducting a survey  to get some solid feedback on the needs and wants of Trustees. By responding to this survey, your input will guide the types of activities and resources we develop and provide. As another way of connecting with our trustees, ALTA will have representation at every regional library conference across the province. Thank you to all of the conference coordinators for being so welcoming. We look forward to learning along with everyone. ALTA’s Directors are working on many projects in response to trustee feedback: updating the trustee handbook, developing templates for advocacy, collecting HR resources, and starring in our very own YouTube Series! Keep checking back to the website for exciting tools and updates to our ever-increasing catalogue of resources.

I am very excited to see how this year unfolds. Working together, we can accomplish great things.
