I hope this letter finds you and yours well. I would like to thank you for your continued support of Alberta Library Trustee’s Association during this challenging year. As many may be aware ALTA has endured substantial disruption and change over the past 2 years. ALTA continues to deal with significant challenges that have resulted in the decision to complete an external organizational review.
Stemming from the organizational review the board of directors have made the difficult decision to end the position of Executive Director. This has resulted in the loss of one of our most valuable assets – Heather Mayor-Colson who was the executive director of ALTA for almost 10 years. Many of you have had the pleasure of meeting Heather and know how wonderful her enthusiasm and support of library trustees has been. It was through her dedication that ALTA has been able to succeed these past 10 years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Heather for her service to ALTA and recognize all her hard work.
Effective immediately we will contract our Administrative and Financial support services to The Alberta Library. This will allow ALTA to continue to offer the support and education to our members without interruption. During this transition we will continue to monitor our initiatives closely. Over the summer you can expect direct engagement from our organization, seeking feedback from each of your boards.
The remainder of ALTAs work remains the same. We strive to take a new approach to how we engage with our trustees and create a strong path forward. ALTA continues to offer direct support to library trustees and their boards in a variety of formats. We offer consultation opportunities either in person, videoconference, email, and telephone. We also host monthly coffee chats for member trustees to network and learn from one another.
It remains a priority of ALTA to support library boards and assist them in being the voices of their community. ALTA is confident that we can continue to provide trustees with the tools needed to translate their legislative responsibilities into the skills needed to shape the libraries and communities they serve.
