The President’s Message during COVID-19
Let’s Connect on the Trustee Forum!
In light of recent developments around the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re urging our members to stay informed, take the necessary steps to maintain safe and healthy best practices.
These past few weeks have been filled with uncertainty and plenty of stress. All of your libraries are closed as mandated by the province and you have likely had to make a number of decisions as a board on how to support your staff, decide if and what services you might still offer and more, all in a time of constantly changing information and circumstances.
There are endless questions that every trustee has during this time, and ALTA has the ability to facilitate the need for connectivity between trustees.
ALTA has a trustee forum for all current members. The perfect place for trustees to connect, discuss fears or concerns or share some of your success as a library during this time. If your library board is not a member and would like access, email ed@librarytrustees.ab.ca
Based on the virus’ rapid spread and the frequency of asymptomatic cases, we strongly encourage that preventative measures be in place well before anybody in your workplace shows signs of infection.
Simple first steps to take
- Permit or even encourage remote work for your teams, particularly if anybody has shown signs of illness.
- Encourage diligent hand-washing and ensure libraries and office areas are well-stocked with cleaning supplies.
- Postpone uncritical meetings, particularly those with outside participants.
